TALKING LANGUAGE: SPANISH

In this activity you will talk about food in SPANISH. You will use the picture underneath as a starting point for the conversation. Try to prepare a list of food related vocabulary prior to your Spellian conversation to make the most use of this activity.

 

 
The following questions should be the starting point for a spontaneous conversation; try to expand your answers as much as possible. If you feel confident, you can ask one or two questions to learn your partner’s opinions.
 
TASK 1
Listen to the question about the vegetables in the picture.

Then, answer it mentioning as many names as possible.

TASK 2
Listen to your partner’s question

And answer whether you like vegetables and which one is your favourite.

TASK 3
Listen to your partner’s question

And tell her/him which is your least favourite vegetable.

Remember to build full sentences. E.g. La verdura que me gusta menos es…

TASK 4
Listen to your partner’s question

And say how often you eat vegetables.

TASK 5
Listen to your partner’s question.

And say whether you have eaten vegetables this week.

Remember to use “preterito” (e.g. he comido, he tomado…)

TASK 6

Listen to your partner’s question

And give your opinion about the importance of eating fruit and vegetables.

And answer it building a full sentence.

And give your opinion about pasta and Italian cuisine.

Try to expand the question saying how good the main cook is and what they cook better.

If yes, expand your answer explaining how often you eat them and which one you prefer.
If not, expand your answer explaining why you do not like them.

Then say whether the food in the picture is healthy and why.

Expand your answer saying why and how.

Now you need to speak with your partner in English. Use the picture and questions below as a starting point for the conversation. If your partner is not sure how to answer, repeat the question slowly.

 

ACTIVITY 1

Ask your partner her opinion about the typical British Christmas lunch shown in the picture.

ACTIVITY 2

Ask your partner which British Christmas food she would prefer to eat / try and why.

Ask your partner which British Christmas food she would not want to eat / try and why.

ACTIVITY 4

Listen to your partner’s question about your favourite and least favourite Christmas food.

Respond to the question justifying your answer.

Ask your partner to describe a typical Christmas lunch in her family.

ACTIVITY 6

Spanish people traditionally receive Christmas presents on the 6th of January (Wise Men day). Ask your partner if she can explain how el dia de Reyes is celebrated in her city.

ACTIVITY 7

Ask your partner whether she thinks that Christmas traditions should be maintained.

ACTIVITY 8

Ask your partner which are the main celebrations, besides Christmas, in her city.

ACTIVITY 9

Listen to your partner’s question about British celebrations.

Respond to the question, justify your answer.

ACTIVITY 10

Ask your partner which English celebration she would like to attend if she could choose.
