I found Spellian to be an incredible experience! Being able to talk to a native Spanish speaker each week and talk about topics both related to the curriculum and more casual topics helped my fluency to an extent that I couldn't believe.
At the beginning of the year, I sometimes found it difficult to formulate sentences but now I find myself thinking in Spanish without even realising.
The weekly topics are insightful and it's nice to talk to a Spaniard about both their culture and British culture to learn about their opinions whilst practising at the same time.
My speaking partner and the Spellian team were incredibly helpful, respectively being able to rearrange a session or correct my blunders, and sort out technical issues whenever they arose.

Spellian has given me the opportunity to improve my Spanish and also to befriend a native Spanish person. Every week we speak for about 30 minutes over videocall with the support of prompted questions and example answers, on topics that are part of the GCSE, so perfect for the exam. Furthermore, it has allowed me to improve my spontaneity and my fluency as I am able to extend the conversation to common interests me and my partner share.
The programme is very unique and like nothing I’ve ever seen before as you get the real life experience of speaking with a native speaker similar to your age, something that is difficult to achieve within the classroomY11 student

In learning any language, oral expression is what students find hardest. Even knowing the vocabulary and grammar, when they want to express themselves verbally they are faced with insecurities and fears that conversation is not fluid enough. To overcome this problem and increase knowledge of British culture at the same time, we offer our students from 3rd of ESO to 1st of Baccalaureate participation in Spellian. Spellian is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for anyone looking to improve their language skills and make a new friend abroad. It has helped me massively improve my Spanish oral and listening skills, and I feel so much more confident in understanding questions, and being able to reply without hesitation. The resources are really interesting and designed to give loads to talk about, and include aspects from Spanish and Latin-American cultures. Talking with a native Spanish person your own age gives a unique insight into their culture and life abroad, which is really fascinating, as well as providing the opportunity to make a really good friend. My partner Judit is really sweet, and a bit shy, but we feel so comfortable with each other, that I’ve gotten to know so much about her, from favourite TV series to plans for the future, and we talk throughout the week as well.
