TIEMPO LIBRE EN FAMILIA

Los pasatiempos más comunes de las familias españolas son salir a pasear, ir al parque o a la playa, hacer deporte (caminar, montar en bici, jugar al fútbol…), comer juntos los fines de semana, ver películas o series, y visitar a los abuelos y otros familiares.
TASK 1
Ask your partner what activities they usually do with their family
TASK 2
Listen to your partner’s question Describe the activities you usually do with your family You can start your answer using the first person plural (nosotros, yo y mi familia) and the present tense (vamos, salimos, hacemos, cocinamos, practicamos…). “We use to + infinitive” is translated into Spanish as “Nosotros solemos + infinitive” (e.g. Yo y mi familia solemos ir muy a menudo al cine) To make it more detailed, use some adverbs of frequency (a veces, de vez en cuando, a menudo, normalmente, siempre…) You can further elaborate on your answer by mixing different tenses and pronouns. For example, explain what you did with your family last weekend, using “pretérito” and both I and we (fui/fuimos, hice/hicimos…)
TASK 3
Listen to the question Explain which activities you like the most and which you like the least. Justify your answer. “What I like the most” and “what I like the least” are translated into Spanish as: ‘Lo que me gusta más’ / ‘Lo que me gusta menos’
TASK 4
Listen to your partner’s question Say whether you’d like to do any other activities with your family and explain why Remember to use the conditional tense in your answer (me gustaría, me encantaría, me chiflaría + infinitive) For a more challenging answer you can use the second ‘if clause’ that in Spanish requires subjunctive + conditional tense (si pudiera / si tuviera más tiempo + me encantaría / me gustaría + infinitive’
TASK 5
Give your opinion on the importance of spending time as a family You can give a balanced answer using “además” or “sin embargo”

Las familias españolas son cada vez más pequeñas: la tasa de natalidad es solo de 1.12 hijos. Curiosamente, el número de animales de compañía ha aumentado en los últimos años. Hay más de quince millones de animales de compañía, 50% son perros, 40 % son gatos, y el 13 % restante incluye conejos, aves, tortugas y otros reptiles.
TASK 6
Listen to your partner’s question Describe your family Say whether you are an only child, or have any siblings And mention if you get along with your parents and/or siblings
TASK 7
Describe the type of family you would like to have when you’re older Remember to use the conditional in your (me gustaría, me encantaría…)
TASK 8
Listen to your partner’s question Say whether you have a pet If you do, describe it and explain why you like it If you don’t, explain whether you’d like to have one
TASK 9
Listen to your partner’s question Talk about the advantages and disadvantages of having a pet To give a balanced opinion, try using the expressions “Por un lado… Por otro lado…”.
TASK 10
Listen to your partner’s question Say whether you’d like to have a pet when you grow up If you would, describe the pet you’d like to have. To elaborate on your answer, you can mention which pets you’d like to have and which you wouldn’t If you wouldn’t, explain why
TASK 11
Ask your partner whether they like animals and whether they have, or would like to have, a pet
TASK 12 (Challenging)
Families have changed considerably over time If you have time you can improvise a conversation about how modern families are different to those a few generations back
