What is included

The payment covers the assignation of one exchange partner of a similar age, the scheduling of the sessions, the personalised access to the Spellian platform with the resources for each session and the link to the videocalls, as well as the attendance of a Spellian tutor on the first call.

Duration

The Spellian exchange starts staggered in the Autumn Term and runs weekly until late March, with a pause during Christmas and the UK half term holidays. Attendance to the sessions is compulsory; however, we can’t guarantee that your child or their partner will attend weekly, as this will depend on the individual commitment and discipline of each participant. Participants who miss two sessions without notifying their partner in advance will lose their place in the programme. Conversely, if a participant's partner fails to attend weekly sessions or withdraws from the programme after the exchange has begun, we will make every effort to find a suitable replacement. However, if no appropriate match is available, the exchange will come to an end. The subscription is valid for the duration of the programme, unless the participant or their partner chooses to withdraw or fails to adhere to the Spellian Code of Conduct (e.g. through unjustified missing participation or inappropriate behaviour).

Cancellations and refunds

For cancellations made before the 31st August, any payment made will be refunded in full. From the 1st September the fees will be non-refundable. The only exception is when we cannot find a partner for an applicant, in which case we will refund the registration fee, minus a £15 administration fee. As per the terms and conditions, once the programme has started, we cannot offer refunds. Spellian cannot take responsibility for students’ attendance, and we don’t offer refunds if your child or their partner fail to attend their sessions.

Partner guarantee

Whilst we strive to assign a partner to each student, we cannot guarantee that every applicant will be assigned a partner. If we cannot find a suitable partner before the exchange starts, we will refund the subscription minus a £15 administration fee. Once the exchange has started, if the student's partner leaves the programme or fails to attend the weekly sessions, Spellian will do its best to find a suitable second partner to continue the programme, and if unsuccessful will offer a 25% discount for the subscription in the following school year.

Recommended - Individual support and supplementary sessions

What is included

If the English student fails to attend the sessions or leaves the programme, we will arrange personalised replacement sessions for your child with an English Spellian ambassador*. These one-to-one sessions are 30 minutes long, take place entirely in English, and ensure that your child continues to benefit from the programme without interruption. We highly recommend this option if you’d like to guarantee your child completes all sessions.

*Spellian ambassadors are older students who have been excellent participants in the past and are paid to do these sessions
